Béthune: the planned 240 MW industrial conversion, conflicting phase schedules and the evidence needed to confirm delivery.
In this article
Béthune is a large industrial conversion with a phased delivery programme. Nebius and Azur Datacenter are developing AI infrastructure at the former Bridgestone site in northern France. The 240 MW headline describes the intended full development. It does not establish that a 240 MW customer cluster is already operating.
The project matters because it combines an existing industrial location with a substantial AI capacity plan. Its value to Nebius will depend on the facilities and equipment that actually become available, and on customers using that capacity. Those steps deserve separate attention as the buildout proceeds.

The site and the development programme
Circular Datacenter identifies itself as a contractor on the Azur programme for Nebius. It describes the conversion of 26,000 square metres of the former Bridgestone plant, with targets of 120 MW by the end of 2026 and 240 MW in 2027. Those are the contractor's published programme targets. Circular Datacenter project description.
Reusing an industrial site can provide an existing building envelope and established transport access. It does not remove the need to install and commission the electrical distribution, cooling, fire protection and communications systems required by an AI facility. The suitability of a former factory should therefore be assessed through the actual conversion programme, rather than assumed from the weight of its former machinery.
The published schedules describe different phases
The local authority's announcement described an initial 60 MW phase expected during summer 2026. Nord France Invest describes a smaller initial stage of approximately 27 MW, followed by 120 MW in 2026 and eventual expansion to 240 MW in 2027 or 2028. These accounts do not provide a single consistent commissioning schedule. Béthune-Bruay announcement. Nord France Invest project account.
The appropriate conclusion is that the campus is planned in stages and that public descriptions differ on the size and timing of those stages. A summer target passing on the calendar is not proof that the corresponding capacity has entered commercial service. This review has not established an independently verified total for commissioned, customer-ready capacity as of September 17, 2026.
Permitting evidence remains part of the story
The Pas-de-Calais prefecture maintains a public participation file for SIG Reverse Industry at Béthune, including documents posted during August 2026 relating to the installation and its power systems. That record is a useful source for the physical proposal and environmental review. The existence of a consultation file does not by itself establish final authorization or completed construction. Prefecture project file.
For the next refresh, the most useful evidence will identify the particular phase being energized, the equipment commissioned within it and the date it becomes available to customers. These details are more informative than repeatedly citing the ultimate 240 MW envelope.
How Béthune fits the French network
Béthune is a separate physical development from the established Paris deployment. The two can serve the same national market while having different roles, counterparties and delivery stages. They should remain separate entries in a site inventory.
The opportunity is a sizeable addition to Nebius's European capacity. The open question is the pace at which that opportunity becomes usable infrastructure. No site revenue, GPU count or operating utilization is inferred here from the campus power figure.
